MULTICULTURAL NIGHT

February 7th, 2019

Save the date for one of the most fun events at Andrews!

The Multicultural Night is Andrews's way of celebrating the beauty and the culture of each country represented in the Andrews Elementary Community. It is truly one of the most enjoyable events at Andrews!

Every year we ask Andrews’s families to join in as we learn about the different cultures and countries represented at our school; wherever your family is from and whatever your traditions are, we all want to learn from you as we celebrate our diversity!

On Thursday, February 7th, 2019, our school will be transformed into a Multicultural Festival including a World Food Sampling Area, the flag Parade, Cultural Booths, and much more. Please join us whether or not you are hosting a table; you can do any, all, or none, but plan to celebrate with us.

Cultural Booths:
Cultural booths are now forming. Booths are only made possible if volunteers like you join in the fun! Please consider volunteering at a booth, or grab a group of friends and start a booth to share your culture at the festival. This is a great opportunity for students to learn about different heritages and customs. Bring music, flags, maps, games, sports, souvenirs - anything that can proudly showcase your culture!

If you are not sure that you can attend the event but you would like to have your culture represented, please contact us. We have experienced volunteers who are happy to help at this wonderful event. We will be soon having a meeting for all those who will be having a booth. We will send a message later with the exact date and time. Although if you already know that you can host a booth or be a volunteer at one booth, please contact Andrea Lise: andrewsptaways@gmail.com
Thank you !

FOOD DONATIONS

We are looking for volunteers to donate food for our Multicultural Night event! If you are able to help, please review this link and sign up:

TEXAS PTA HONORARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP:

Since 1909, the Texas PTA has made available the Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership as one of the highest honors presented to individuals for outstanding service to children and youth. The recipient does not have to be a PTA member nor must the service for which the honor has been bestowed be connected with the PTA. The only requirement for receiving a Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership is that the recipient is making or has made a worthwhile contribution to the well-being of children and youth.

NOTE: Recipients of the Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership are exempt from paying the Texas PTA portion of dues for only one Local PTA of their choice per membership year . If they have received more than one Honorary Life Membership, they may register as a Texas PTA Life Member with as many Local PTAs as they have Honorary Texas PTA Life Memberships. Texas PTA Honorary Life Memberships do not carry with them automatic rights to vote or to hold office in any PTA. In order to participate actively in PTA, an honorary life member must enroll in a Local PTA by paying the local and National PTA dues and having his/her name included on the membership list sent to the Texas PTA Office.

What is PTA? Why Join PTA?

The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more PTA advantages:

Get Connected

There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.

Discover Great Resources

The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents (Parent Education Seminars) as well as students (Assemblies, Author Visits, Red Ribbon Week motivational speakers).

Tap into a Network

PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. YOU can share ideas, concerns, and experiences.  YOU can help make the school a better place!

Watch Yourself Grow

By volunteering with your PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause—your child and all children in the community.

Speak Up

PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.

Witness Improvement

By getting involved at your child’s school you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role by supporting building improvements through advocacy and play an important role in fundraising for curriculum based programs and social events.

Be a Role Model

By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.

Enjoy Substantial Benefits

Individuals and local units can take advantage of a host of benefits from PTA membership including discounts and offers from member benefits providers and sponsors, magazine subscriptions, leadership training, e-newsletters and much more.

For less than 3 cents a day, you can become a PTA member, joining more than 4 million other people who share your interest in issues affecting children. Everyone—parents, educators, students and other citizens active in their schools and communities—is invited to join our not-for-profit parent association.

Our annual Reflections Art Contest is coming!

INFORMATION FLYER

STUDENT ENTRY FORM

Artwork should be submitted between October 28 and

November 1, 2018.

From the Texas PTA: Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.

With positive recognition as the focus of this program, rather than competition, students of all ages and abilities can experience the benefits of creative expression and help in finding their own voice in telling their unique story.

Started in 1969 by Mary Lou Anderson, then Colorado PTA President, Reflections has grown to be one of the largest nationwide programs of its kind, with more than 200,000 students participating annually.

Thank you to Deepa Shenoy for volunteering to coordinate this contest at Andrews.
